DYSMORPHIA: 12“ x 24”

ACRYLIC

PAINT

As part of my AP Art portfolio with a sustained investigation on the negative impacts of the beauty standards placed onto women, I created this piece of a body submerged into a tub of water. However, the parts of the body underwater become progressively more distorted, symbolizing body dysmorphia and how being exposed to constantly changing ideals in the “perfect body” can be extremely detrimental, especially to young girls. As shown through intentionally painting with muted and muddied hues, the figure is displayed in a somber light.
